We believe that leadership is a call to shepherding—guiding the body with wisdom, humility, and a deep commitment to the Word of God. Together, we serve to nurture the spiritual growth of every member of our community.

Greg Ryan

Pastor, Elder

Having earned his Bachelor’s degree in Secondary English Education from Shippensburg University of PA in 1994, Greg began his career life as a public high school teacher. After 12 years of teaching and having found the Lord in 1999, Greg transitioned out of secular vocation and into serving God full-time in 2009 as the Christian Education Director of Faith Bible Church in Mechanicsville, MD. After earning his Master of Theological Studies from Liberty University in 2011 and receiving his ordination from FBC in 2018, Greg was elevated to the position of Assistant Pastor and Elder where he served until his move to SAYSF in January of 2024. Greg has been married to his wife, Wendy, for over 30 years. They have 2 grown children and 3 granddaughters.

Tom Hanrahan

Elder

As a youngster living in New Jersey, Tom cared mostly about math and baseball. However, he also grew up in a family where the truths of the Bible were taught and modeled every day. At a young age he made a decision (as God graciously drew him!) to become a Christian by trusting Jesus as the only One who, through his sacrificial death, could pay the debt he owed.

He and his wife, Jan, were married in 1982 and moved to southern Maryland, as Tom began a career at NAVAIR. Soon after they arrived, they became a part of the SAYSF Bible Church family.

Tom has been involved in youth ministry, music, and various teaching roles. He has been serving as an elder since 1989. He will joyfully tell you how the good hand of God has consistently provided His strength and grace to equip and enable him for the journey ahead

Shawn Sherard

Elder, Youth Leader

At sixteen years old, Shawn gave his life to Jesus Christ and afterward was immersed in water baptism in the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. After attending Boise Bible College, he met and married his better half, Stephanie, and then joined the Navy a year later. Shawn is a retired Chief Petty Officer, United States Navy. He has continued his education at Liberty University, where he has changed majors five times, but he fully intends to get around to finishing his Master’s... someday. He is convinced that when he finally grows up, he will know what he wants to do with the rest of his life.
For over a quarter of a century, Stephanie has been by his side and given him two sons. Trenton, who is currently serving his country in the United States Marine Corps, and Christian, a high school student. Stephanie has been his confidant, steadfast friend, and biggest cheerleader as she has followed him from Idaho, to Oregon, Florida, Maine, Hawaii, and finally to our little piece of paradise in Southern Maryland.
Shawn is passionate about a good cup of coffee, history of almost any type, loves heavy thunderstorms, and fat bears. He is crazy about his hometown Boise State Broncos football team, but alas, often gets his heart broken by the Denver Broncos. Shawn and Stephanie are dedicated to the bone to the task of making disciples, as commanded in the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20). Shawn’s greatest goal in life is to someday hear the Lord say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25:21.
